NIMHANS
The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bengaluru, brings together specialised care, education and research in mental health and neurosciences.
Home to a WHO Collaborating Centre for Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion, NIMHANS received the WHO Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion in 2024. The institute also lists recognition in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals in 2021 and 2022.
The question & approach
Dr. Uma Hirisave, Professor and Clinical Psychology Consultant at NIMHANS, reviewed the developmental assessment model that underpins Parentof’s ARRC Engine. The review examined the model’s developmental foundations, exploratory assessment work involving 265 community parents, and face-validity work involving 130 parents.
Clinical expert review of the ARRC assessment model.
What the clinical expert review established
The review established face validity and found the assessment model appropriate for capturing parental reports of developmental milestones and indicators across developmental domains. These findings support the assessment foundation of the ARRC Engine and its use in parental guidance.
Assessment model evaluation
| Measure | Reported result | Context |
|---|---|---|
| Exploratory assessment work | 265 community parents | Review sample |
| Face-validity work | 130 parents | Review sample |
| Scope of use | Parental reporting and guidance | Developmental milestones and indicators |
What the findings support
The 2017 NIMHANS review supports parental developmental reporting and guidance, with further evaluation recommended in a larger parent group.
